A champion's mindset in and out of the pool
I learned what it's like to perform at the highest level under pressure as a world champion water polo player. As a lawyer, economist, and diplomat, I have learned how to apply this knowledge beyond sports to the development of organizations and people.
Performance you can measure in numbers
I am still an active, registered player.
ABOUT ME
In the pool,
and beyond
I'm Miklós Gór-Nagy, father of two, Hungarian world champion water polo player, lawyer, economist and sports diplomat.
I regularly give talks and take part in professional discussions on talent development, the educational role of sport, and career transitions after elite sport. At home and internationally, I try to inspire audiences and show that sport has a far broader impact than people often assume — one that can be examined not only through a social lens, but also through health, community-building, education and many other dimensions.

SPORT
I began my professional athlete career at BVSC, then went on to play for Eger, Honvéd, Budva in Montenegro, OSC and Ferencváros. I wore the Hungarian cap 200 times, played at 3 European Championships and 5 World Championships, was part of the team that won gold at the 2013 Worlds in Barcelona, and took silver in 2017. At club level my biggest result came in 2019, when I won the Champions League with Ferencváros.

DIPLOMACY
Alongside my sporting career, I earned a degree in economics, then completed my law degree at Károli Gáspár University. It has been a huge honour to be an honorary citizen of the university since 2022. In 2025 I obtained a degree as a Corporate Restructuring & Asset Supervision Economist at MATE University.
After my professional playing career ended, I turned to diplomacy: from 2020 I served my country as Foreign Economic Attaché at Hungary's Consulate General in New York. I then worked as a ministerial adviser on sports diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, where among other things I took an active part in establishing the international Fair Play World Day recognised by the United Nations. Since 2023 I have been involved in the work of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation, first as Sports Director and currently as President of the Competition Committee. In this role we oversee the regularity and integrity of the game and of competition, as well as matters relating to amateur water polo championships and university sport.

FINANCIAL PROJECTS
I worked as an analyst and Investment Committee member at a Hungarian private equity fund, where I was involved primarily in technology and capacity development, succession, export development and real estate projects. I am also a member of the Investment Committee of a Hungarian R&D institution, where I support the practical application and market rollout of applied research. As Foreign Economic Attaché in New York, I helped Hungarian companies enter the U.S. market, supported American companies' entry into Hungary, and helped attract FDI to Hungary.

Let's talk!
In my talks I approach the subject on three levels: globally, through sports diplomacy; nationally, through sport as a force that builds and unites national culture; and personally, through the lessons of my own development across a 27-year playing career. I share what a championship mindset looks like under the pressure of elite sport, together with my legal and economic background and my experience in international diplomacy — ideas that can inspire an audience and help move their work forward.
